The Girl Who Tried

The Girl Who Tried is the first book written and illustrated by Kim Percy. As she grew up, she did not know that she was dyslexic but that she was different from those around her. 

When her youngest son was assessed as dyslexic, Kim decided to find out what she could about dyslexia and neurodivergency. She realised that many people still didn’t understand the challenges dyslexics faced in the classroom so has written a book from the child’s perspective. 

The aim of this book is to help teachers, parents and supporters understand what it is like to grow up with a cognitive difference and to build empathy and awareness. 

This book has been illustrated using textures derived from Kim’s paintings from Mountain Out of Words, series 2022-2024 and MARKING, 2024.
