Gunyah
In 2013, my family and I travelled to Port Stephens on the central coast of NSW to participate in an art residency. My focus was to reconnect to my drawing practice, as I had been primarily working in photo-based medium for a number of years. I modelled my drawings on the White Winged Cough, a curious bird found in dry bush in Victoria. Cough’s bring up their young in communities, which resonated with me as I saw correlations with how we were raising our two boys in a small, regional town. The drawings were also collaborations with my boys - if you peer closely you may see drawings and words under the ink and pastel. Other symbols I used was the cross, meaning bringing people together and the circle which symbolised a gate or an opening to possibilities.
