Moving Image

These works are an exploration into moving image. I first studied film at Prahran TAFE in the late 80s under the tutelage of Graham Hare using clunking VHS editing suits and Super 8. I made projects I referred to as ‘poetry’. Short vignettes heavily emotive and visually rich. More recently, I have been interested in short animations and video installation. My primary focus with moving image is in relation to installation rather than narrative.

Finding Difference

This is the first in a series of motion images that explores diverse identity through abstraction. Water is a conduit for emotion and this art video uses water as a metaphor for experiencing difference within community. These videos are works in progress and will form an installation using projection, perspex and water.

Video Art

Feeling different is a personal journey for many people and inspires a raft of responses. As an artist, I have been grappling with the how I can use visuals to connect and communicate what it is like for me being neurodiverse and experiencing difference within the similarities of community. Difference is broad and relies on a common anchor point to unit a discussion. These art videos hope to build a metaphysical bridge of understanding of what it feels like to be slightly out of step with others in our society.

Mountains out of Words

Being dyslexic, I sometimes find that reading can be akin to climbing a mountain. Not all the time, and not all the reading, but sometimes, when I am tired, I feel overwhelmed and exhausted by the sheer volume of words. Sometimes, words jumble and the meaning becomes illusive. It is these moments that I wanted to express in this short animation, titled ‘Mountains out of Words’, 2022.

Flicker (test)

I have been playing with the idea of inspiration and what happens when ideas blink into and out of existence. This is a test of an idea that I am working on for a video installation proposed for 2023.
